With rising regulations and sustainability goals, the supermarket refrigeration industry is shifting from hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants, super-polluting greenhouse gases, to natural refrigerants like CO2, ammonia, and propane. These alternatives have low to zero global warming potential, making them climate-friendly.
Despite their benefits, high upfront costs and service readiness hinder widespread adoption in US supermarkets. NASRC works with the industry to address these challenges through workforce development, funding, and education.
