About NASRC
The North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council (NASRC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works with the refrigeration industry to eliminate the barriers to natural refrigerants and enable their widespread adoption across the US. We collaborate with equipment manufacturers, contractors, retailers, utilities, and government agencies to eliminate barriers to adopting climate-friendly refrigeration technologies.

Position Overview
NASRC is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support our Education Committee in the developing of a comprehensive CO₂ (R-744) refrigeration manual to establish an industry certification program for commercial refrigeration technicians. The writer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) from industry and training organizations to translate technical concepts into clear, engaging, and accurate instructional content.

This project will produce a structured training reference designed to increase technician competency, promote workforce readiness, and support nationwide adoption of CO₂ refrigeration systems. The development of the manual and certification are a joint eUort in partnership with RETA/RSES.

Responsibilities

  • Content Development: Draft, edit, and structure the CO₂ Refrigeration Manual based on outlines and raw technical materials provided by the Education Committee.
  • SME Collaboration: Interview and collaborate with industry experts (engineers, contractors, and manufacturers) to gather necessary technical details and clarify complex concepts regarding CO₂ systems.
  • Standardization: Ensure consistent terminology, tone, and formatting throughout the document, adhering to applicable style guidelines (e.g RETA).
  • Visual Coordination: Work with the committee to identify needs for diagrams, schematics, and charts; coordinate with SMEs to select visuals or illustrate basic concepts to enhance learner comprehension.
  • Review Management: Manage the review cycle, incorporating feedback from multiple committee members and stakeholders to produce a final, publication ready manual.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of technical writing experience, preferably in the HVAC/R, engineering, or industrial manufacturing sectors.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with commercial refrigeration systems, thermodynamics, or mechanical engineering concepts is highly preferred. Specific knowledge of Natural Refrigerants (CO2/R-744) is a major plus.
  • Educational Writing: Experience writing curriculum, training manuals, or certification study guides is strongly desired.
  • Communication: Excellent ability to translate complex technical jargon into clear, concise language accessible to field technicians and students.
  • Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft OUice Suite, Adobe Acrobat and InDesign, and standard document collaboration tools (e.g., Google Workspace, SharePoint, Basecamp).

Project Scope and Timeline

  • Type: Independent Contractor / Freelance
  • Duration: 3-6 months or until manual is complete
  • Deliverables: Completed CO2 Manual
